Spikes are designed to meet the needs of runners of various event disciplines. Spikes are manufactured to meet the needs of athletes who fall into five categories: short sprints, long sprints, middle distance, long distance, and cross-country. Savannah speed does not participate in cross-country, so we will not cover the shoe for cross-country in this article.

The design of the spike a very similar to each other because they’re all designed specifically for running sprints. If you’re still confused about what type of shoe to get your athlete, consult with your event coach.

FIELD EVENT SPIKES are tailor-made for specific events, making them easy to spot. Usually the names of the models will represent the event for which they are worn. For example, the Saucony Uplift HJ is used for the high jump. Abbreviations such as “TJ” or triple jump, “SD” for shotput and discus, and,”Jav” for javelin are very common when looking for sport specific spikes.

SHORT SPRINT SPIKES

For Savannah Speed sprinters, we teach for motion, minimizing the time spent on the heel of your foot and maximizing the time spent on the balls your feet is of vital importance to your race. Sprint spikes are designed to enhance your form and speed from the starting blocks to the finish line.

You can quickly detect a Sprint spikes by observing the plate on the under sole. Tissue often has an aggressive plate mold underneath the forefoot to force runners on their toes and to decrease the foot contact with the ground, exactly what sprinters need to save valuable fractions off of their seconds.

Spikes designed for 55m, and 100m sprinters have a full-length plate that spans from the forefoot to the heel.

LONG SPRINT SPIKES

For the younger sprinter, it may be hard to find the full plate spike at a reasonable price; it is okay for them to purchase the spikes for longer sprints, because they will be running both long and short sprints.

Long Sprint spikes has all of the weight characteristics of the short Sprint spikes, the difference is the plate underneath the bottom does not run as a full forefoot to heal type of plate. Spikes for the long sprinters plate only cover the forefoot and has a soft, rounded heel underneath the shoe.

MIDDLE DISTANCE SPIKES

For the 800 m 1500 m and the mile runner, there is a specific spike made for not only speed up for the endurance you are need in the race.

The mid-distance spikes should be light as a feather in the underneath spike plate should be a lot more flexible compared to the sprinter spike almost as if you are running barefooted.

LONG DISTANCE SPIKES

Long Distance runners, by definition, will run events 1500 m and, 5 and 10K events. He will issue to be like flexible and durable for that race with endurance being the name of the game. There are only 4 to 6 spikes at the bottom of the flexible plate and need to be changed out with any sign of dullness.

Spikes
